How the study ran

1. ObserveWatched participants put on, wear and work in the apparatus, noting where they hesitated, adjusted or struggled.
2. Break down the taskMapped the full workflow step by step to see where the sequence itself caused errors or delay.
3. MeasureTook anthropometric measurements and assessed fit and comfort across body sizes, against ergonomic standards.
4. SynthesiseCombined body data with interaction data into human factors recommendations for the Indian context.
5. Hand overShared the 10+ areas for improvement with Dräger UK’s engineering team to inform prototype iterations.

My role

I led the qualitative usability testing and the quantitative ergonomic assessment, and worked with a multidisciplinary team to turn the findings into design recommendations. Methods like these surface comfort, fit and safety issues that an engineering team alone can miss.

Domain insights

• UPIMicro-payments of ₹20–200 pile up unnoticed. Bank-server failures cause delays, so half of those affected now carry some cash. Not great for splitting bills.
• Credit cardsHigher earners chase cashback and lounge access; others use cards to cover expenses. Settling the monthly statement is stressful, with too few due-date reminders.
• Investment and insuranceVariable earners can’t commit to SIPs and opt for stocks. Many young professionals rely only on corporate or parental health cover: “we’re young”.

Synthesis

• Frictionless spending, friction-heavy trackingPaying is seamless; tracking is manual and split across accounts.
• Easy credit, little debt literacyCredit is a tap away, without built-in guardrails against over-leveraging.
• Autopay versus trustMost like autopay; some still insist on paying manually.
